Digital Forensics provides a persistent fingerprint that travels with the title assets, thus serving two purposes; the first, an additional layer of security. Since dissimilar Digital Forensics tags are incompatible, any attempt to use pieces of applications reassembled from different sources will be unsuccessful. When used in pre-release, Digital Forensics will prevent using pre-release title components to compromise the protection used on final production releases. As additional protection, attempts to remove the fingerprint will destroy the ability to use the product in its entirety or as assembled pieces.
As a second use, Digital Forensics can also be serialized to aid identification of the source of a digital component. This can be used to distribute a uniquely identifiable copy or disc for each recipient—useful in the circulation of pre-release copies—to allow any discovered copied component or complete copy to be traced back to the party that held the original.
